Sofia Yala Rodrigues (Lisbon, 1994)

Available for commissions and collaborations

Sofia is a photographer/ visual artist based in England and Portugal. Part of her current
work can be attributed to experimentation; the concept of her practice comes from curiosity about her family archives, history, migration,
identity and transatlantic realities.

The artist entitled her practice as a hybrid, she sees it as an ongoing work that is never finished / rethinking and revisiting the past includes leaving a margin for more reflection in the future without compromising the essence
in the present. Sofia pays special attention to details such as textures and combinations, in order to reshape memories and experiences.

The artist studied African Studies and Anthropology and recently graduated from the University of Derby in 2021 with a MA in Film & Photography. At the moment she is attending the East Meets West masterclasses in order to continue her journey as an emergent photographer.

Workshops/ Residencies/Masterclasses:

East Meets West -  series of Masterclasses organised by FORMAT Festival, QUAD, Derby, and GRAIN Projects, which offers photographers from the East and West Midlands an immersion in their subject matter and a unique opportunity for emerging photographers to receive feedback from industry expert.
